I picked up "The Alchemist" because of its viral recommendation and I could confirm that the book is not overpraised. There is something different about the book that is stand-out (probably, I should not compare) from the other self-development books. To me, it's all rooted in the author himself. He used quite a unique way to put sentences together to provoke the reader. What is that? The Alchemist is in short a storytelling about why one should relentlessly follow their own dream. The key "why" that Paulo tried to pinpoint lie in the undetachable attachment of the dream owner. Once you have a dream, you can never un-dream. What I found unique about his technique is the emotional, the spirituality, the soul, the unseen force connection..etc. Telling people to do things or being told to do things is not my cup of tea, therefore, it's a stellar job he put in there because it's not about "you have to follow your dream" but it's about "why not following your dream when you only live once". Additionally, I like that the book is one continuous story instead of a combination of stories. It made me curious how the lead would end up. To some extend, I placed myself from time to time as a protagonist. I visualized the situation and positioned myself in there as to how I should respond to a particular event. Well, because I am quite a dreamer too so this book made a great impact on me and it touched every aspect of circumstances that I could come up with when dealing with my dream. Although, not every part of the story is logical the sole purpose was to draw pictures for better content absorption. So if you are quite a 1+1 = 2 person, well you might not really be into it or who knows you might find it fantastic. I can tell that I found my favorite author. I am going to pick up some of his other books and will see how my feeling will develop :)
